Yes, a florist in her community in Westerville, Ohio surprised this 107-year-old woman with 107 roses for her special birthday.

Check out journalist Lacey Crisp’s Facebook post, in which she mentions the things Elestine says had helped her survive all these years.

Many individuals congratulated Elestine after seeing the message. “107 roses,” wrote Rox Wold on Facebook. They are stunning, just like you…”

This 107-year-old woman was with her family when the Columbia-based florist Battiste LaFleur Galleria brought the gift of 107 roses to match her age.

Elestine exclaimed, “They’re wonderful,” as she saw the roses that had been specially selected for her.

Elestine had no idea who was behind this remarkable gesture at the time, but she later learned that it was sent to her by members of the church she attended. It comes as no surprise that she attributes her long life to her religion and love.

When asked how others might live as long as her, she responded, “Praise the Lord.”

You might be wondering if this centenarian lived to be 108. She “went home to be with the Lord” over four months later, on February 10, 2021, according to her obituary. She passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family.

Elestine Evelyn Lawson’s obituary provides some information on her life and how she came to be the 107-year-old woman who has been widely reported on throughout the world. She was born in 1913 in the Georgia town of Macon and moved to Columbus when she was ten years old. Elestine married Isiah Lawson, and the couple had one son, Nathan Lawson, who died before her. She was the grandmother of four grandchildren, seven great grandkids, and four great-great grandchildren! Elestine had lifetime pals whom she regarded to be family.

This 107-year-old woman was devoted to her faith, having spent 97 years as a member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio! Elestine’s favorite activities included spending time with her family, reminiscing about her childhood in Georgia, and traveling.

Her legacy, according to her family, was to “honor God, respect your elders, and live life to the fullest.”

Elestine’s age is outstanding, yet she did not set a new record. Thelma Sutcliffe of Omaha, Nebraska celebrated her 115th birthday on October 1, 2021. She is currently the oldest living American.

Pete Festersen, a member of the City Council, sent this centenarian a birthday greeting.

Although Thelma enjoyed a big birthday party with her local new station when she turned 109, she desired a private celebration for her 115th birthday.

Gerontologists are interested in centenarians, regardless of how far they survive past the age of 100. These researchers look into the characteristics of these people to figure out why they live so long. Elestine seemed to be on to something when she says that faith and love helped her live longer. Family connectedness, a positive attitude toward life, and the avoidance of worry, according to Thomas Theodore Samaras, are important factors.

The number of centenarians is anticipated to rise, according to statista.com. According to a 2016 info graph, while there were 82 living centenarians in 2016, the number of persons predicted to live to be 100 or older in 2060 is expected to reach 589. The number was estimated to be 93 in 2020, and one of them was my grandmother, Betty Sausto! On May 29, 2020, “Guc” (as we nicknamed her) will turn 100. Our family had planned to assemble in Sarasota, Florida to celebrate her 100th birthday, but we had to cancel because to the COVID-19 epidemic. She passed away at the age of nearly 101.

Yesterday was my mother-in-law, Betty Sausto's 100th birthday! Our whole family including grandchildren, great…

As Elestine, the 107-year-old woman, would say, here’s to “Guc” and all the centenarians out there, past and present: praise the Lord!
