Teacher Was Moved To Tears After Seeing The In-flight Video And Listened To His Pilot Student’s Thank You Speech In Midair

Have you heard the Japanese proverb “One day with a superb instructor is better than a thousand days of rigorous studies”? It just goes to show how essential teachers are, and it’s only natural that Turkish Airlines’ pilot on duty, Mithat Okhan Onan, startled his former aviation school teacher when he boarded the jet. He was clearly moved to tears by it.

Selahattin Onan, who is also Mithat’s father, is the lucky instructor.

The surprise began with an in-flight video of a group of pilots who had previously been Selahattin’s classmates. They shared their experiences with the teacher in the video and wished him a Happy Teacher’s Day. Selahattin choked a few times while watching the video and appeared to be fighting back tears.

Mithat’s voice could be heard across the plane giving a very wonderful statement as soon as the film concluded.

“This is your captain speaking, dear passengers. Today is a significant day in my life. I’ve been a pilot for Turkish Airlines for 6 years, thanks in large part to the efforts of my teacher Selahattin Onan, a long-serving teacher who is still with us now. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to refer to your teacher as a father figure. For 20 years, he was a captain pilot, and for ten years, he was a mentor to thousands of pilots like me, growing them up like his children. I’m expressing my great thanks on behalf of all of his students right now, and I’m so eternally grateful. I’m grateful to have had you as a teacher. I’m very thankful you were my teacher. I’m so thrilled you’re my father.”

Turkish Airlines captured the historic occasion and uploaded it to YouTube on November 24, causing many to cry and leave comments.

As soon as the magnificent speech ended, Selahattin burst into tears.

While Selahattin was drying his emotions, a few pilots gave him with a bouquet of flowers.

Selahattin graciously accepted the lovely bouquet presented by his students.

Mithat emerged from the airplane cockpit to greet his father, kissing his hand and hugging him tightly to express his gratitude for everything he had done.

Selahattin was brought to tears by that magnificent occasion, as were the hearts of the other boarding passengers.

We’re holding back tears as we write this, and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of the world’s instructors!

Thank you very much!
