107-year-old Woman Celebrated Her Birthday With 107 Roses

What are your birthday traditions? You might go out for a special meal, throw a party, or receive a gift or some lovely flowers from your significant other. Unlike one centenarian woman, you are unlikely to have received a present. Elestine Lawson had a special day on October 28, 2020. Yes, a florist in her community in Westerville, Ohio surprised this 107-year-old woman with 107 roses for her special birthday.

This 107-year-old woman was with her family when the Columbia-based florist Battiste LaFleur Galleria brought the gift of 107 roses to match her age.

Elestine exclaimed, “They’re wonderful,” as she saw the roses that had been specially selected for her.

Elestine had no idea who was behind this remarkable gesture at the time, but she later learned that it was sent to her by members of the church she attended. It comes as no surprise that she attributes her long life to her religion and love.

When asked how others might live as long as her, she responded, “Praise the Lord.”

You might be wondering if this centenarian lived to be 108. She “went home to be with the Lord” over four months later, on February 10, 2021, according to her obituary. She passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family.

Elestine Evelyn Lawson’s obituary provides some information on her life and how she came to be the 107-year-old woman who has been widely reported on throughout the world. She was born in 1913 in the Georgia town of Macon and moved to Columbus when she was ten years old. Elestine married Isiah Lawson, and the couple had one son, Nathan Lawson, who died before her. She was the grandmother of four grandchildren, seven great grandkids, and four great-great grandchildren! Elestine had lifetime pals whom she regarded to be family.

This 107-year-old woman was devoted to her faith, having spent 97 years as a member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio! Elestine’s favorite activities included spending time with her family, reminiscing about her childhood in Georgia, and traveling.

Her legacy, according to her family, was to “honor God, respect your elders, and live life to the fullest.”

Elestine’s age is outstanding, yet she did not set a new record. Thelma Sutcliffe of Omaha, Nebraska celebrated her 115th birthday on October 1, 2021. She is currently the oldest living American.

Although Thelma enjoyed a big birthday party with her local new station when she turned 109, she desired a private celebration for her 115th birthday.
