Is Zac Efron Ready to Have Kids? The ‘Firestarter’ Star Shares His Thoughts on Fatherhood

Is Zac Efron ready to start a family? He isn’t prepared. In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, he was asked about parenthood, and he seemed to agree. The two were talking about his first onscreen father role, in the remake of Stephen King’s Firestarter, and the High School Musical star was extremely open about his sentiments. In fact, he reduced his emotions to a single phrase. “Oof.”

In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Efron discussed his experience playing the father of a 10-year-old daughter (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) in Firestarter, which will be released on May 13. “I didn’t think about it all that much,” he said of his first time playing a father with no prior experience. “And then I had a two-week quarantine when we started making the movie, and when I got out of quarantine, we started filming on Monday, so it was a pretty rapid introduction to the picture, and all of a sudden, I had this daughter in front of me. Right away, we had a really intense father-daughter scenario, and I realized I was completely unprepared for it. “I had no idea what I was doing.”

After two days, the two formed “the best friendship” because “fortunately, Ryan is just so lovely, she’s just the coolest.”

DeGeneres (and everyone else) wanted to know if that sweet bond made him want to start a family of his own.

When she inquired, Efron replied, “Oof,” before fumbling over his words as the audience chuckled. “You know what it is?” That was a good dose to get me off it for as long as I needed it. I probably have a little more growing to do.”

It’s worth mentioning that Efron’s mother was laughing along with the crowd when her son added, “I don’t know what to say anymore.” He went on to remark that he has a “healthy respect for parents” and is “extremely grateful for all of them,” before mentioning his own mother and concluding, “I love you so much, mom.”

She now understands she will not be having grandchildren any time soon.

According to Us Weekly, Efron is currently single, so now might not be the best time to pursue fatherhood. But, given his film choices, are you sure you don’t want to be a father? He’ll be seen in another classic remake, Three Men and a Baby, as well as the upcoming Firestarter. Perhaps he’s simply putting on the dad act until the right one comes along. That’s alright with us.
