“I was in tears. I couldn’t breathe because I was crying so hard. It was the biggest shock of my life. ‘How is this possible?’ I recall asking myself a million times that day.” she inquired. Things were about to take a turn for the worst. An hour later, the couple received a call from an adoption agency social worker informing them that they had been matched and could meet their newborn daughter in only three weeks! When Sarah met the baby girl with whom the couple had fallen in love, she was eight weeks pregnant.

Their joy, however, was short-lived, as the infant was taken up by the biological parents only 5 days later. They’d changed their minds, and it’s permitted to do so up to ten days after the baby is born. “I was nursing her when the phone came through,” Sarah recalled hearing the heartbreaking news for the first time. “Desperately, I collapsed to the ground. ‘You’re joking, this is a joke, right?’ I kept repeating to my spouse. Sarah was in such excruciating agony that she assumed she was having a miscarriage. “Saying farewell to her was more painful than words can express. We felt as if we were dying since we knew we would probably never see her again. We became parents as a result of her. Infertility had broken a portion of our hearts, and she helped us mend it. Even though it was just for a few days, she made me a mother.”

The couple was looking forward to the birth of their miraculous baby as they faced this heartbreaking challenge. Sarah went on to raise a large family of her own later in life. She gave birth to Noah Howell, and the couple has since adopted Levi, a one-year-old child, and fostered a two-month-old baby. Sarah has no harsh feelings against the couple who returned their infant daughter. She shown amazing maturity by comprehending the perspectives of her birth parents. “The sorrow we felt that day, I usually say, was worse than our three years of infertility put together. We have no grudges against her biological parents. We’d tell them how much we adore them and how blessed their baby daughter is to have them as parents if we could.”
