Brother Steps Up When Dad Doesn’t Show For Little Sister’s Father-daughter Dance

Skylar Hamerter, 7, was expecting one of her best nights of the year.

She had been looking forward to the Covington, Georgia, father-daughter dance for months.

Her father had not turned up to take her the year before, and she had hoped he would this year, according to her mother, Trelysia Hamerter.

“This year, she approaches me ahead of time and says, ‘Mommy, I want my dad to come to the dance with me.’ Grandpa is not welcome. Trelysia explained, “I want my dad, I want everyone to know I have a dad.”

Trelysia stated that she didn’t think Skylar’s father would let her down again, but she became concerned in the weeks and days building up to the dance. Her ex didn’t answer the phone. “I felt really awful since there was nothing I could do because I’m not a boy,” Trelysia stated the day before the event, crying.

Christian, her 11-year-old son, noticed her crying and inquired as to what was wrong.

“If he doesn’t show, mum,” Trelysia recounted her son saying, “I’d like to take Skylar to the dance… she deserves to know that a man can fulfill his promise and that she’s truly unique.”

They chose Christian’s suit and tie to match Skylar’s gold gown, “just in case” Skylar’s father didn’t show there.

When Skylar’s father didn’t show up the next day, Hameter’s concerns were realized. Christian was all set to leave.

Their mother told TODAY Parents that they went to the dance and had a great time. She was so proud of Christian that she shared their tale on Facebook in a now-viral post.

She said in the post, which has been shared over 52,000 times, “Y’all I literally cried.” “Just know that one day I’ll be raising a GREAT HUSBAND.”

This is the 2nd year that my daughter’s father stood her up for the Daddy/ daughter dance. She cried because she had her…
