Mom Teaches “Ungrateful” Daughter A Valuable Life Lesson For Throwing Her Gift In Trash

Are you stumped as to what to do if your youngster is acting entitled and ungrateful? Prepare to be inspired by a Florida mother who went viral after posting a “long mom tirade” on Facebook after experiencing a similar circumstance. Haley Hassell gave her daughter a fresh new pencil case that she had only discovered after visiting three different stores. Her 6-year-old, on the other hand, threw a tantrum because she no longer wanted it. Hassell tried to remain calm throughout, but she lost her cool when she discovered the LOL pencil case in the trash. The horrified mother then chose to utilize the incident as a teaching opportunity, taking to social media to explain how she managed her emotions and taught her kid an important lesson.

“Mrs. Presleigh [her daughter] suffered a tough-love lesson today,” Hassell said, uploading photos of her daughter crying and the pencil case laying in the trash can. To get that LOL pencil box you see in the garbage, I traveled to three separate businesses. She gazed at it, threw it in the trash, and slammed the bedroom door when I surprised her with it this afternoon (thinking she’d be overjoyed). ‘It’s dumb, everyone in my class has that… I don’t want that any more!’ she cried. “WHAT, STOP, COME AGAIN?” The mother, understandably enraged by her daughter’s attitude toward a thoughtful present, wrote. Hassell was disappointed, not angry, because she hadn’t raised her daughter to be ungrateful.

“OK. So by this point, there was definitely smoke shooting out of my ears, and I’m trying really hard not to lose it on this daughter who I’ve fought so hard to financially support on my own and make sure she always has what she needs and more. But, while I believed I had always taught her to be appreciative and aware of her good fortune, it appears my she needed a little nudge! So, before I lose it and become absolutely enraged with my child, I check myself and say, ‘Okay, that’s OK, let me go grab the one you’re going to use.’ “Hassell went on to claim that she had devised an ingenious way to teach her daughter a lesson in thankfulness.

“I returned with her new pencil box, which is the Ziploc bag [shown],” she explained. She’d gone insane! Suddenly, the LOL box she had just thrown away was sufficient, and the Ziploc bag was a disaster… All of that, though, is too late. I told her to take the LOL [box] out of the garbage and that we’d locate a youngster to give it to the next day. One whose parents do not have the money to buy school supplies, or who may not even have a mother or father.  I told her she wasn’t entitled to anything special and that she shouldn’t take her good fortune for granted. So, for the time being, she’ll use a Ziploc bag and deliver the wonderful box herself to a youngster who could benefit from it. Perhaps I exaggerate at times, but I would have given anything to have all of the things she does as a youngster. “I genuinely believe that simply altering your perspective and being grateful can turn around any situation in life,” she said of her incredible parenting method.

Without a question, the episode was a terrific example of good parenting, but many people were critical of the way she used the internet to shame her own kid. “I received personal messages accusing me of being a monster mother… They claimed I was a bad parent, and that bad parents raise bad kids. When I wrote it, I was just having a rant. I didn’t believe anyone would share it. People claimed I was publicly humiliating my kid, which I disagree with “During an appearance with Good Morning America, she clarified. Hassell is relieved that her daughter grasped the scenario and took away a valuable lesson that day. After delivering the pencil box and other school materials to a 5-year-old girl in another state, she got “perspective.” “I want her to realize that having a good mindset can make or break you in life,” she said. ” “Nothing is going to be easy, but you have to be grateful when something is offered to you.
