The Most Generous Hollywood Star: Keanu Reeves Donated 70% of His First “The Matrix” Film to the Leukemia Research Foundation

Kim, Keanu’s younger sister, fought Leukemia for ten years, forcing him to contribute 70% of his first ‘The Matrix’ movie income. Until she went into remission, he became her primary caregiver.

Keanu Reeves, 57, supported blood cancer research after learning that his younger sister, Kim, 55, had been stricken with the disease ten years ago, according to LadBible. Keanu made $35 million with his first “The Matrix” film in 1999.

According to reports, the Speed star sold his home and moved in with Kim, spending around $5 million on drugs and therapies to aid her recovery. Filming on the Matrix sequels was put on hold during this time. Keanu was motivated to start a cancer charity after Kim recovered from Leukemia, but he chose not to be the main donor and stayed anonymous.

He explained, “I don’t like to put my name on it; I just let the foundation do what it does.” “It’s been around for five or six years and supports a couple of children’s hospitals as well as cancer research.”

“She was always there for me, you know,” Keanu, a devoted older brother, said of Kim. “I’ll be here for her at all times.”

Keanu merged the proceeds from the second and third Matrix films and contributed a share to the visual effects and costume design teams. “He felt that they were the ones who made the movie and that they should participate,” according to a 2001 Wall Street Journal report.

In June 2020, Keanu launched an auction for a 15-minute Zoom “meet-and-greet” with the proceeds going to Camp Rainbow Gold, a children’s cancer charity. Netizens have dubbed him “the internet boyfriend” because of his philanthropic demeanor and good appearance.

When the sequel to the John Wick film series completed in October 2020, Keanu awarded each of his four-man stunt squad a Rolex Submarine watch worth $9,150 each. The lucky recipients were Bruce Concepcion, Jeremy Marinas, Dave Camarillo, and Li Qiang, with Marinas sharing a photo of the gift on his Instagram story.

Marinas’ tale was captioned, ‘greatest wrap present ever,’ and included a photo of the watch’s inscription, which said, ‘The John Wick Five Jeremy Thank you Keanu JW4 2021.’

Laurence Fishburne reprises his role as The Bowery King, Lance Reddick reprises his role as Charon, and Ian McShane reprises his role as Winston in the sequel.

On the other hand, new star cast members such as Donnie Yen as Caine, Hiroyuki Sanada as Shimazu, and Shamier Anderson as Tracker were welcomed to the last installment.

Although no narrative details have been provided at this moment, Lionsgate Productions’ John Wick 4 will be released in theaters worldwide on March 24, 2023.

While they wait, Keanu fans can see The Matrix: Resurrections, which will be released in theaters on December 22, 2021.
