Kid Sends Gift to Poor Country, Not Knowing the Recipient Would be His Future Wife
A youngster took part in a campaign to provide gifts for less fortunate children in other nations, and he ended up marrying the girl who got his gift.
Tyler was looking forward to the big day of Christmas. It was a happy day at their family, especially because it meant a lot of gifts will be exchanged.
He joined his mother in a church-sponsored campaign for less disadvantaged children from underdeveloped nations a day before Christmas.
Tyler considered school after hours of deliberation. When school began, he was heading to sixth grade, which meant he’d have a lot of items from the previous year that he wouldn’t need. That gave him an idea: he could send his old school stationery as a present to someone who would appreciate it.
He chose an empty shoebox and filled it with school materials such as crayons, felt-tip pens, a note of encouragement, and a photo of himself. The following was written in the letter:
“Hi! How are you doing? My name is Tyler Stockholm, and I’m writing to tell you about how much fun I’m having at school. It’s a fantastic location to learn and meet new people. I’ll be in sixth grade next year, and I’m looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. I’ve also placed some school supplies in for you, so make sure you go to school wherever you are. I hope you find my gift beneficial.
Tyler covered the box in wrapping paper and gave it to his parents, who took it to the church, where it was delivered to Cambodia along with other packages.
Tyler instantly forgot about the package as he immersed himself in the Christmas festivities. Years passed, and when he started college, he received a Facebook friend request from a lady called Chia.
Because he had no idea who she was, he declined her friend request. He erased it, but was taken aback the next day when he received another request from her. He also removed that one, but the demands continued to come in. He told his mother about it over the phone one day.
“Mom, I keep getting friend requests from a strange girl from another country, and despite my rejections, she continues to send them. So, what do I do now?” Tyler had enquired.
“Have you checked out her profile? Maybe it’s someone you used to know “His mother counseled him.
“I looked at her profile, but she is completely unfamiliar to me. I’m pretty sure I’ve never met a Cambodian.”
His mother inquired, “Cambodia?”
Tyler said, “Yes, that’s where it says she’s from.”
“Do you recall the package you sent a few years ago?” His mother inquired.
“The one I mailed right before I started sixth grade?” he said.
“Yes. That’s the one. What if the child to whom you gave it is the one attempting to contact you?”
Tyler remarked, despite his gut feeling that she was correct, “There’s no way it could be mom, that was so long ago.”
He got into his Facebook profile after they finished talking and accepted Chia’s invitation. An hour later, she sent me a message. Tyler read it and then replied.
The initial two messages sparked a series of texts between them over the next few days. They would communicate for a couple of hours a day at first, but as their relationship progressed, they spent more time messaging each other.
They gradually fell in love with one another in this manner. Their bond got deeper over time, and Tyler began to see Chia as his future wife at some point.
Tyler agreed to meet Chia three years after they fell in love. He had graduated from college and, as a result of his outstanding performance, had been offered a position at a factory almost immediately.
He went to Phnom Penh and met Chia for the first time. They couldn’t stop hugging each other, and once they were done, she took him around Phnom Penh before taking him home.
Her living situation astounded him. She had not completed high school due to financial constraints, so she returned to her family’s home, which consisted of a single spacious room with a toilet.
Tyler couldn’t believe how miserable things were for his girlfriend, so he began to consider how he might make her life better. The simplest solution was for her to live with him, so he proposed to her when he returned to her family.
Tyler’s desire to marry her sister delighted her siblings, but her mother was opposed.
When Chia inquired why she wasn’t in favor of the marriage, the eldest lady spat at her, “Your father would have been against it as well if he was lived to witness this.” She said, “They will take you away and convert you into a slave.”
Tyler’s father had to go to Cambodia to talk with the mother and persuade her that her daughter would not be harmed.
Nebraska was the location of the wedding. Chia donned a white gown, while the groom wore a traditional Cambodian outfit. The couple, as well as their children, continued to support Operation Christmas Child as a family.
