Chris Rock ‘Can’t Imagine Forgiving’ Will Smith After Oscars Slap: He’s Still ‘Emotional’
Chris Rock has stated that he “doesn’t want the Will Smith slap to define him” and “the rest of his career,” thus it is unlikely that he will accept Will’s apology anytime soon.
Chris Rock, like the rest of us, is still grieving after Will Smith’s slap at the Oscars. Indeed, the 57-year-old comic believes he will never be able to accept the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star’s apology. “He can’t picture being friends with Will and forgiving him.” “It’s just a very strange thing to totally envelope,” a source close to Chris told HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY.
Chris also understands that it isn’t something that will be forgotten anytime soon. “Chris Rock does not want the Will Smith smack to define him or his career in the future.” It’s a bummer that it’s now a permanent part of his life,” our source revealed. After Chris made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, referring to her as GI Jane owing to her bald head, the King Richard actress slapped Chris. Everybody Hates Jada because she has alopecia, an auto-immune illness that causes hair loss. Chris was apparently unaware of her situation.
Ticket sales for Chris’s comedy act have soared since the slap. While his listeners may expect him to address the slap, he isn’t quite ready yet. “He doesn’t know when he’ll talk about it; he knows he’ll have to at some time,” the source revealed, “but he’s focused on his tour and waiting for the dust to settle.” “Dealing with and wrapping his brain around it is still raw, emotional, and puzzling.”
Will Smith has since apologized for the incident to both the Academy and Chris. He also resigned from the Academy shortly after the incident was investigated. Will and Chris seem to have one thing in common: they’re both attempting to get past the incident. “Right now, the most important thing is that Chris wants to move forward in a positive way and not dwell on it more than he needs to,” the insider said.
When Chris is ready, he wants to “explain everything in a very professional manner because the way the circumstance was placed upon him was as far away from that as possible.” Chris, as well as the Academy, will most certainly address the problem at some point. Even though he resigned, the Academy’s President said that the investigation into the incident would continue, perhaps leading to his expulsion from the Academy.
