Twin Girls Born with Different Skin Colors Grow Into Beautiful Women

When most people think of twins, they picture two people who are identical in appearance. Non-identical twins are equally frequent, although they might have a hard time persuading people that they are twins. Imagine having a twin that has a different skin tone, a different hair type, and a different eye color than you. It’s even more difficult to believe they’re twins, let alone siblings! Lucy and Maria Aylmer are just that, and you’d never guess they’re related based on their appearance!

bi racial twins

In 1997, Maria and Lucy were born. Their father is Caucasian and their mother is half-Jamaican. They are two of five siblings, and what makes them unique is that they are twins, bi-racial twins to be exact! You’d assume the duo would look like a mix of both of their parents, however each daughter looks like a distinct parent. Maria has dark, curly hair and caramel-colored complexion, whereas Lucy has pale skin, blue eyes and red hair.

Lucy and Maria Aylmer biracial twins

Lucy claims that even their own mother, Donna Douglas, was perplexed when the girls were born.

“It was such a shock for her because characteristics like skin tone don’t show up on prenatal scans.” So she had no idea how unlike we were. She was speechless when the midwife gave us both to her.”

Not only do the two have vastly distinct physical appearances, but they also have vastly different personalities. Lucy defines herself as timid, but Maria characterizes herself as gregarious and outgoing.

While their disparities in look and demeanor could lead some to believe the girls have completely different lifestyles, Lucy claims that their differences have helped them become even closer. Lucy describes the situation on ITV News. “Now we’re both proud of the fact that we’re twin sisters.” Maria is quite proud of having a black twin, and she likes informing people at college that she has a white twin.”
