10-Year-Old Performs Celine Dion’s Hit Song For Audition — Simon Cowell’s Eye Rolling Soon Turn Into Surprise

The biggest surprises can sometimes be found in the tiniest of packages. This was demonstrated by a young girl from Hong Kong who wowed the audience during her audition for the twelfth season of “America’s Got Talent” in 2017.

Celine Tam, who seemed even younger than her true age at the time, sang a performance of her namesake Celine Dion’s classic, My Heart Will Go On, when she was nine years old. Celine’s extraordinary vocal ability particularly astounded judge Simon Cowell, who had dismissed Celine based on his first impression.

Simon Cowell has a well-deserved reputation as a stern, opinionated judge on popular talent programs, and he also has a flair for spotting genuine potential. From a young age, Cowell showed symptoms of having a keen critical eye. He informed his mother when he was four years old that she looked “like a poodle” since she was wearing a white fluffy pillbox hat. Although his first impression of Celine Tam, then nine years old, was unimpressive, this brilliant young lady quickly brought the audience to their feet and captivated Simon’s attention.

Celine Tam is named after Celine Dion, one of her favorite musicians. Many people who try to sing her songs on shows like “America’s Got Talent” pale in contrast. Celine Dion is one of the most amazing musical powerhouses of our time.

Young Celine, on the other hand, proved herself worthy of singing the legendary Celine Dion’s songs nearly as soon as she took the stage. It’s not often that Cowell is absolutely swept away by a performance, but when he is, it’s usually for something spectacular like Celine’s!

She chose “My Heart Will Go On,” which was one of the first Celine Dion songs she ever sang for her parents. She told judge Mel B that she was in the car with her father when she unexpectedly blurted out the song from the movie “Titanic” during the audition. Her father, who is a vocal teacher, has decided to teach her how to sing since then. Her parents stated that Celine Dion was their favorite singer and that their baby was named after her. They had not anticipated Celine’s musical prowess to be on par with Dion’s. They identified and cultivated their daughter’s singing talent over time. Celine Tam finally had her moment to show off her outstanding skills on “America’s Got Talent” after all of their time, work, and effort.

The audience soon recognized the girl’s skill and surged to their feet when she began singing this Celine Dion song on stage. It was apparent after the performance that her talent astonished the judges as well. Celine Tam performed wonderfully throughout an extremely difficult song. Her voice was perfectly emotive yet polished and precise, with a lovely yet forceful tone.

Celine’s audition video was the most popular YouTube video in Hong Kong in 2017, according to the South China Morning Post. In terms of view count, the video was 40 times more popular than the next competitor video, according to the South China Morning Post. Not only that, but her audition was chosen one of “America’s Got Talent’s” top 15 most viral moments of all time.

In celebration of its 15th anniversary, Gold Derby revealed the show’s top 15 viral moments. Celine Tam was ecstatic to learn the news, writing in an Instagram caption:

“WOW! It’s a complete astonishment to me that I was able to make it into the Top 15 America’s Got Talent Auditions for the show’s 15th anniversary!! What an adventure it’s been for me! Looking back at that video gives me chills, and I can’t express my gratitude enough to the judges and the incredible people who have supported me along the journey! This is incredible to think about out of ALL the auditions, and I was one of them! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Celine was awarded the coveted Golden Buzzer by guest judge Laverne Cox following her outstanding rendition of Michael Bolton’s “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” when she advanced to the Judge Cuts. Celine was noticeably startled as gold confetti showered down on her as she stood on stage, eyes wide open and mouth gaping. Her parents were in the audience, roaring with delight at their daughter’s accomplishment. Her mother was inconsolably upset.

Celine advanced to the Quarterfinals, where she performed her cover of Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey’s “When You Believe,” earning a standing ovation from judge Heidi Klum. Celine performed “How Far I’ll Go,” from Disney’s Moana, at the Semifinals. Celine did not garner enough votes to progress to the final round of the competition, despite receiving another standing ovation from Klum.

According to Celine’s America’s Got Talent wiki, “America’s Got Talent” is neither her first nor her only appearance on the show. She had auditioned for the tenth season of “Britain’s Got Talent” a year before, and while passing the auditions, she was not selected for the live event, nor was her audition televised. Celine then performed in China’s version of “World’s Got Talent” last year. Celine received her second golden buzzer at this event, propelling her into the top eight of the competition. She performed admirably in the tournament, but she did not place in the top two.

Celine and her family have always shared a fascination for Celine Dion’s music. Celine’s parents have appropriately named Celine’s baby sister Dion, which is not surprising. Dion is five years Celine’s junior, and while we haven’t seen the now-eight-year-old Dion conquer the stage like her older sister, she has shown promise in the realm of magic, as evidenced by a video posted to Celine’s Facebook page in which Dion performed a card trick backstage on “America’s Got Talent.”

Celine was born on November 22nd, 2007, according to her Instagram account, making her 14 years old now. She can not only sing beautifully, but she can also play the piano. It’s amazing to witness such extraordinary skill in such a young youngster! Celine will undoubtedly inspire thousands of other young people who aspire to attain their goals.
