Dad Wins Custody Of Daughter After She Was Adopted Without His Permission

UNILAD says that Christopher Emanuel’s newborn kid was covertly placed for adoption by his ex-girlfriend without his knowledge.

The South Carolina guy had signed up for the responsible parenting register and had legally fathered his daughter, Skyler, prior to the incident. On February 4, 2014, he made it a requirement that he be told if her mother decided to place her for adoption while going through this procedure.

Skyler was adopted by a San Diego family barely two weeks later, which was shocking. Furthermore, Emanuel was not even identified as her biological father on the paperwork.

President of the South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families, Pat Littlejohn, told FOX 57:

Authorities appear to have failed to tell the father of his own child’s adoption procedure.

Christopher added Skyler’s mother’s name on the registry, making it essential for him to be notified if she placed the kid for adoption, which she did.

Christopher’s name was added to the record on February 4th, 2014, according to court documents. Skyler’s adoptive parents, on the other hand, filed a request to adopt him on February 19th. Despite the fact that Christopher was identified as the biological father on the registration, he was not included to the documents.

However, under South Carolina law, an out-of-state resident can only adopt a child born in the state under uncommon or extraordinary circumstances.

Skylar, a multiracial youngster, falls into this category under the South Carolina Children’s Code.

As a result, the adoption was able to proceed in part.

Parents from outside South Carolina can only adopt a child born in the state under extraordinary circumstances, according to local rules. Skyler fits under this group because she is multiracial. Senator Katrina Shealy noted that the public was less eager to adopt mixed-race children when the statute was created.

The enraged father resolved to fight back and reclaim his daughter.

Emanuel turned to the courts in Skyler’s hometown of Aiken County for assistance. He made the following observation:

It took nearly a year for the father to regain custody of his kid when he objected to the adoption.

After submitting court paperwork demonstrating that his paternal rights were terminated without his consent and expressing his readiness to adopt Skyler, a judge finally agreed with him.

The exclusive custody of Emanuel’s daughter was given to him. His young child was quickly returned to him.

The father’s arduous fight prompted him to assist other parents facing similar difficulties. He founded the Sky Is The Limit Foundation, which educates fathers around the country about their parenting rights.
