Leonardo Dicaprio Has Raised Over $100 Million To Fight Climate Change And Save Millions Of Vulnerable Species And Spaces
The Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio’s organization has raised more than $100 million for the fight against climate change.
The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation exhibits his commitment to the environment. The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, established in 1998, strives to protect the world’s last natural regions and endangered wildlife. The actor was only 24 years old at the time. And now, 20 years later, his desire to make the world a better place is taking shape.
The LDF was established in the same year that the actor ended his role as Jack in the hit picture Titanic. According to Togetherband, the foundation’s original mission was to protect the Earth’s last wild places and explore methods to achieve a harmonious connection between people and the natural environment.
In 2021, his charity will launch Re:Wild in collaboration with Global Wildlife Conservation. They collaborated with partners in over 50 countries to safeguard over 45 million acres of natural space and help 835 threatened species in just the year 2020.
His organization raised millions of dollars in support of the cause in 2018. “I am thrilled to announce $11 million in new awards across our six program areas,” DiCaprio said on the foundation’s website at the time, “increasing the overall financial impact of LDF to over $100 million.” “When I created LDF 20 years ago, I did it on the basic concept that by directly sponsoring some of the most effective environmental projects, we might make a meaningful difference,” he added.

DiCaprio was honored by the United Nations as a Messenger of Peace for Climate Change in 2014. He also serves on the boards of many environmental groups, including the World Wide Fund for Nature, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, and Pristine Seas and Oceans 5.
After winning Best Actor for The Revenant in 2016, DiCaprio used his platform to raise awareness about issues close to his heart. “The Revenant was about man’s relationship with the natural world — the world we collectively felt in 2015 as the warmest year in recorded history,” he explained.
