Bride Surprises Stepson With Special Vow Mid-Ceremony And Now We’re All Crying

Vanessa Lynch of Minnesota, who grew up in a blended household, realizes that we don’t always get to choose our family.

Craig Lynch, Vanessa’s now-husband, and Vanessa met in college. Vanessa grew to love Craig’s small son Henry as they fell in love. They had grown into a lovely family of three by the time they finally went down the aisle after a few years of COVID-19 delays.

Vanessa knew she wanted to include a mention of Henry, who was 9 years old, in her wedding vows. She wasn’t only getting a spouse; she was also getting a stepson. While she was concerned that she would disgrace the child during the ceremony, she chose to go ahead and do it on December 11, 2021.

“I wanted [Craig] to understand how important my relationship with Henry was to me,” she explained. “I didn’t want to be simply another woman his father was married to.”

Vanessa motioned for Henry to go forward as she finished pronouncing her vows to Craig. “Henry, I know I wasn’t there the day you came into the world,” she cries as she tells the boy in an emotional video. I wasn’t there when you took your first steps or said your first words, but I guarantee I’ll be there for many more.”

“I pledge to love you as if you were my own,” she said, as Henry, Craig, and Vanessa fought back tears. “I promise to be the best wife for your father, and I promise to be the best stepmom I can be for you.”

Henry jumped into her arms for the nicest hug after she ended.

“I’m not an outgoing person,” Vanessa explained, “but when I started making the vows to Henry, I became choked up because I could tell how much it meant to Henry to hear those things.” “It was really unexpected.”

When the touching video went viral, Vanessa explained that her own upbringing had shown her how important a stepparent can be in a child’s life.

“Because I came from a blended family, my decision to recite vows to Henry was influenced by my childhood experience of how stepparents should treat stepchildren as if they were their own,” she explained. “Just because you aren’t related by blood doesn’t mean you can’t be a family.” It all stems from the love you have for someone and the commitment you make to them.”

Henry is extremely fortunate to have such a caring and understanding stepmother! We wish this new mixed family a lifetime of happiness and “firsts.”
