Young Man Walks 20 Miles To Get To His New Job- The Company’s CEO Gives Him A New Car
Walter’s automobile broke down the night before his first shift, but that wouldn’t stop him.
They say that hard effort and determination always pay off, and the story of Walter Carr, a young guy who refused to let anything stand in his way of a good first day on his new job, is yet another example of that.
Walter was hired by Bellhops, which is a moving company. He was looking forward to this new chapter in his life, but his car broke down the night before he was meant to start working. He chose to walk from his hometown of Homewood to Pelham, two places 20 miles apart, so he wouldn’t miss his first day on the job.
He began his trek at 12 a.m., expecting to arrive on time.
Walter encountered an officer a few hours into his walk who inquired as to his destination. The officer was taken aback by what he heard as the young man explained what was going on. He then proceeded to offer Walter a ride to the residence where he was supposed to be working that day.
Both Walter and the officer knocked on the Lamey family’s door at 6:30 a.m. Jenny Hayden Lamey was the one who answered the door. The cop explained that he brought her “this nice child” to assist her in moving her staff. Jenny had expected the moving firm to arrive several hours later, so she was shocked when Walter arrived so quickly. At the same time, she was taken aback by his tenacity.
“The doorbell rang around 6:30 a.m. It turned out to be a cop. He went on to say that he had picked up ‘this nice youngster’ early this morning in Pelham. The sweetheart. Jenny commented on Facebook, “Walter claimed he was supposed to help us with our move today.”
When the rest of the movers arrived, one of them shook Walter’s hand and expressed gratitude for his presence. Jenny concluded that few of the new recruits would turn up. “You wouldn’t believe what he did to get here,” Jenny stated to the man in command of the crew at that point. “Tell him Walter,” Walter said modestly, “I walked.”
The entire team was speechless. They later told the incident to the company’s CEO, Luke Marklin, who offered Walter his 2014 Ford Escape without hesitation.
“I’d want to hand this car over to you right now.” Today. As an example, right now. Marklin told him, “Like you can drive away with it.”
Walter couldn’t believe his ears when he heard what he did. He was overjoyed with the present because it meant he wouldn’t have to walk such large distances anymore.
Marklin, for one, was pleased to be able to assist someone with such a strong work ethic as young Walter.
