86-Year-Old Flight Attendant Breaks Record For World’s Longest In Service
Most people need to work in order to survive. The lifespan of one woman, though, was over 60 years. Bette Nash started her career as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines, now American Airlines. She has witnessed the transition of her industry’s systems from chalkboards to computers, and she is now listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for her lengthy and exceptional career as a flight attendant.
Bette began her illustrious career in 1957, at the age of barely 21. Early in her career, airline tickets were about $12, and reservations for flights did not have to be made months in advance. On flights, the flight attendant used to distribute lobster and Marlboro cigarettes as well. Nash has left quite an impression on travelers throughout her many years working high in the skies. Many travelers have publicly stated that the flights on which Nash is working are the best. Nash has been serving in the sky for decades and has risen to fame on her own.
Nash revealed that being a flight attendant had always been her dream job as she reflected on her lengthy and incredibly successful career. She claimed that the job satisfied her desire to interact with people and travel. Even today, the venerable flight attendant can still bring a passenger to the center of the aisle so they can give CPR, which is required annually.
Nash said becoming a flight attendant has been the ideal career path for her despite spending years, even decades, in her field.
Nash spoke exclusively to CNN and stated:
When the flight attendant crossed the hallway, I said, “That’s for me,” and I was 16 years old.
She couldn’t have made a better job choice, Nash continued. It has just been the ideal career path. I like to think I’ve done good work for others, and it’s given my love of people an outlet,” she gushed.
She has been a star in the skies for many years, and frequent flyers have nothing but praise for her. One traveler informed The Daily Mail in 2017 that “The way Bette warms up the entire aircraft is, in my opinion, what is most astonishing and impressive about her. You continue walking and run into her. She recognizes you by name and recalls the chat you two had a day, a week, or even a month ago.”
Nash stated that she values her clients and anticipates seeing her frequent flyers frequently as well. “I cherish my clan. I enjoy consistently traveling on the same flight since I get to know my passengers” she spoke. Nash continued by saying she likes having a positive influence on people’s travels.
“My three-minute talks on board are always a blast. And I’m frequently astounded by the fascinating jobs, adventures, and lives that individuals lead. Why not work as long as I’m healthy and capable? Fun is still had,” said Nash.
Nash said that she was unable to leave her happy zone, even when she considered retirement. Even when I consider retiring, I arrive at work and think, “I can’t do that,” the woman claimed.
