Out & About! Chris Rock Keeps A Low Profile In NYC After Will Smith Gets Banned From Oscars For 10 Years
Following the Academy’s decision to ban Will Smith from the Oscars for ten years, Chris Rock was seen keeping a low profile in New York City.
The 57-year-old stand-up comedian went for an afternoon stroll in New York City this week, dressed in cargo pants, a black shirt with a puffer jacket, sneakers, and sunglasses. In the photographs published by People, Chris was also wearing headphones.\
Fans have been waiting for Chris to comment on what happened at the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, but he has stated that he will not do anything “until I get paid.”
Chris made fun of Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, 50, shortly before presenting the Best Documentary Feature trophy to Questlove at the star-studded event, suggesting that she might feature in a G.I. Jane sequel because of her shaved head.
During her struggle with alopecia, the Red Table Talk cohost rolled her eyes at the remark, and fans watched as her husband, 53, stepped on stage and struck Chris across the face.
After returning to his seat, the King Richard actor cried out twice, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f—king lips,” as the audience gasped in disbelief.
Following the dramatic confrontation, Will apologized publicly to the Academy and Chris for reacting “emotionally” in that moment before leaving from his position with the organization.
After meeting to explore disciplinary action for the actor, the Academy’s Board of Governors issued a statement announcing their decision.
“The Board [of Governors] has decided that Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or online, for a period of ten years, beginning April 8, 2022, including but not limited to the Academy Awards,” it said.
“We did not appropriately address the issue in the room during our telecast. We apologise about this. “We fell short — unprepared for the unprecedented,” they said, complimenting Chris for “maintaining his cool under exceptional circumstances.””
Will has now expressed his gratitude for the Academy’s decision, saying that he “accepts and respects” it.
