Firefighter Delivering Baby Girl, Ends Up Adopting Her When Her Mother Couldn’t Keep Her
“She is exactly what we wished for,” his wife said. It seemed like I’d won the lotto,” says the narrator.
On November 14, 2011, a woman contacted 911, complaining of severe abdominal discomfort, and Marc Hadden, a firefighter, found himself delivering a baby for the first time. He could never have thought that he would be bringing the infant home as his own daughter only 48 hours later.
“She battled from the minute she was placed in my hands,” the father recounted. He had to give the 6-lb. 2-oz. baby emergency oxygen to help her breathe on her own. “It was fantastic to hear her scream,” he continued. Marc and his wife, Beth, already had two young sons, Will and Parker, and had always wished for a third child, preferably a girl. However, due to issues with their first two pregnancies, the couple was obliged to adopt their children, which was a long and expensive process. When the birth mother made it plain that she couldn’t care for her kid, Marc was the first to raise his hand and claim her as his own, according to reports.
Marc’s wife recounted receiving a call from him that day informing her that “I delivered a baby,” to which she joked, “Can we keep her?”
Following that, he informed her that the baby may be put up for adoption. She chose to see the baby’s biological mother after learning that she was a single mother already battling to raise a teenage son. “My heart immediately went out to this woman,” Beth remarked. I handed her a little prayer book and asked if there was anything else I could purchase for her,”. The doctor informed the mother that they were ready to move through with the adoption after the two ladies spoke. “I can’t give my baby to someone I’ve never met,” the mother remarked after sharing her fears with Beth.
Beth recognized at that point that her wishes for a second child, especially a daughter, had been fulfilled. “Suddenly, the opportunity presented itself for me to mention that Marc and I had been praying about adoption for years,” she explained. ‘I want you to adopt my kid,’ she murmured, looking over at me. I was allowed to hold Gracie for the first time after she was brought in by the nurse. ‘I guess we just had a baby,’ I told Marc on the phone. Beth and her husband had signed temporary custody papers by the end of the day, and they had brought the baby girl home barely 48 hours after she was born. “She is exactly what we prayed for,” Beth stated. It seemed like I’d won the lotto,” says the narrator.
Rebecca Grace, their newborn girl, has now become an integral part of their family. Beth and Marc made certain she remembered her origins. “We told her very much from the beginning,” Mark stated. I’ve transported her to the back of the ambulance where she was delivered, so she’s aware,” says the doctor. She even tells others about how “my daddy delivered me in the back of an ambulance [and] helped me take my first breath,” according to him. The pair expressed their gratitude for Grace’s presence in their life, saying that they often pinch themselves. “I’ve always wanted a daughter, and this is just incredible,” Mark said, while Beth added, “Sometimes the finest things in life come in the blink of an eye – and you can’t let them pass you by.”
