Bride Reveals The Touching Reason Why Her Husband Took Her Last Name

This is why this husband took his wife’s surname rather than vice versa.

Jessy Marshall, 32, and Michael Puhle, 36, are newlyweds who defied the custom of the woman inheriting her husband’s surname. Instead of Jessy taking Michael’s surname, they exchanged roles, with Michael taking Jessy’s surname.

These lovebirds met on the dating app Bumble in 2017 and bonded over their mutual love of chocolate. Mike, the founder of Candour Coaching and Eight Week Life Hack, proposed to them in their favorite park in Elizabeth Bay, Sydney, last August after they had been together for three years.

Last Saturday, November 13, Jessy, the director of public relations firm Hive HQ and the love of her life, married. Their wonderful wedding took place at Brunswick Heads, NSW, next to a forest. The welcoming sign said, “Introducing Jessica and Michael Marshall,” which surprised the guests.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, the publicist said:

“It felt exceptional, and it made me feel quite fortunate.” Michael and I have extremely honest and open conversations all of the time, which I think is unique – most people wouldn’t have had that type of interaction.”

Surprisingly, the choice was decided over a platter of margaritas.

They both recognized at the time that they were brave enough to defy tradition. Jessy’s “large” family came up in their talk, and she noted that they have a special affinity. The bride went on to say:

“When we looked at what a last name should genuinely represent, Marshall was the obvious choice. It was a really natural conversation, and it all came down to the Marshall family name’s legacy.”

Jessy went on to say about her enormous family:

“We’re crazy, wild, and a lot of fun, but I also know how overwhelming it can be when you have a huge family, so having someone want to actually become a part of that meant a lot.”

Michael confesses that adopting his loving wife’s surname was a logical choice.
Mr. Marshall stated the following:

“I’m confident in myself enough to do whatever I want.” Taking a last name used to be about claiming ownership and providing women access, but none of that counts now. It’s an ancient way of thinking.”

In the meanwhile, many brides opt to preserve their original surname or add their husband’s surname with a hyphen. Only approximately 3% of men, on the other hand, assume their wives’ surname, and Michael is pleased to be one of them!

Thankfully, the Marshalls were overjoyed to have Mike join their large, rowdy family.
