Adele Stands by Decision to Cancel Las Vegas Shows for Not Being ‘Good Enough’: ‘You Can’t Buy Me’
Adele said during a BBC Radio 4 Sunday interview that she “certainly felt everyone’s sadness, and I was devastated, and I was afraid of letting them down.”
Adele is defending her choice to postpone her performances in Las Vegas.
On Sunday, the “Hello” singer reminisced on her last-minute decision to cancel her gigs in Sin City while speaking with BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs.
She admitted as much to BBC host Lauren Laverne, “I absolutely felt everyone’s sadness, and I was devastated, and I was afraid of letting them down.” I still stand by my decision because I believed I could put it all together and make it work.
Adele, 34, added that while money wasn’t the problem, the show’s lack of “good enough” quality was.
She said, “You can’t buy me, you can’t buy me for nothing.” “I’m not going to just do a concert because I have to, or because people will be disappointed, or because we’ll lose a ton of money,” the performer said.
The singer of “Easy on Me” also admitted that after she canceled the gigs in late January, she faced unrelenting criticism for her choice.
She acknowledged, “I was a shell of a person for a couple of months.” It was horrible, but all I could do was wait it out and, I think, just lament the shows and get over the guilt.
The Grammy winner responded to a question about the show’s status by saying, “Of course, I could be someone on TikTok or Instagram Live every day saying, “I’m working on it.”
Naturally, I’m working on it, she said. If I have nothing to update you with, I won’t do it because that will only make you more disappointed.

The British singer, who released her fourth album in November, previously declared on the Graham Norton Show in February that her Vegas residency “is absolutely 100% happening this year.”
She explained to the host, “I have plans for next year, therefore it needs to happen this year.” Think about if I had to cancel due to pregnancy!
Adele gave her first public performance in five years on Friday at the British Summer Time concert in Hyde Park.
Page Six of The New York Post reports that Adele interrupted her performance four times to check on spectators who appeared to want medical assistance. The front row fans, who waited seven hours in the heat to get in, also received some water from her, according to TMZ.
She reportedly told the audience, “My God, I’m back at home,” according to Rolling Stone. “Being in front of a crowd again feels so odd. Each show makes me incredibly anxious, but I enjoy being up here.”
