Keanu Reeves Says He Married Winona Ryder ‘Under the Eyes of God’ While Making Dracula Scene

When filming 1992’s Dracula with co-star Winona Ryder, Keanu Reeves explains that they “performed a whole take of a marriage ceremony with actual priests.”

More than just regular co-stars, Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder are close friends.

Ryder made light of the possibility that she and Reeves had legally wed on the Dracula set in August 2018. She said that during the 1992 film’s shooting, director Francis Ford Coppola “employed a real Romanian priest” to officiate at their characters’ wedding, which they meticulously recorded.

At the time, she admitted to Entertainment Weekly that “we actually got married in Dracula.” “No, I swear to God, I believe we are already legally wed.”

Reeves, 57, responded to a recent question from Esquire by saying, “”Are you two legally wed, you and Winona Ryder?” We recorded an entire wedding ceremony with actual priests. As per Winona, we are. As Coppola claims, yes. So I suppose we are wed in God’s sight.”

Reeves revealed that she occasionally refers to Ryder humorously as “husband” while making light of the fact that he has totally committed to their relationship during an interview on The Talk in January 2019.

He then said, “Once in a while, I will get a text: ‘Hello, husband. I wasn’t sure I believed her until Dracula director Francis Ford Coppola got in touch with Winona and publicly acknowledged that, “Yeah, that actually happened, the priest had a whole ceremony, and Winona and I got married.”

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Reeves gushed about Ryder, describing her as a “beautiful person and a wonderful actor.” I think we make a nice couple, he continued.

Ryder and Reeves remained close friends after Dracula. Even more recently, the two collaborated on Destination Wedding (2010), The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009), and A Scanner Darkly (2006). (2018).

Sandra Bullock, one of Reeves’ other frequent co-stars, told Esquire that she believed “maybe” she and Reeves “might have endured” as a pair if they had started dating. Both Lake House (2006) and Speed (1994) were jointly produced.

She said, “Keanu’s a person who, in my opinion, is friends with every woman he’s ever dated. “I don’t believe anyone has negative things to say about him. So perhaps we could have made it. I’m not sure.”

Added she, “However, we had nothing to survive. We simply get to go through life on parallel paths, shake hands, have dinner, and attempt to get along. And as time passes, my respect for people grows stronger.”
