“Are They Rescues?” Father of 5 Uses Leashes to Keep His Children Safe, and People Quickly Jump to Judge
In a recent video, Jordan Driskell demonstrated how he brings his five children out in public settings. The video received more than 4 million views and split viewers into two groups: those who supported the dad’s use of leashes and those who opposed it, albeit the latter group was actually rather small. Jordan graciously allowed us to interview him, and we’re here to tell you all about it.
The process of becoming parents was difficult for Jordan and his wife, Briana.
After more than two years of unsuccessful attempts to conceive, Briana and Jordan began fertility treatments. At the scan for cycle 5, they learned that there will be not one, not two, but five babies!
Being a child once more, in Jordan’s opinion, is the best aspect of being a father. observing how much they like doing all the enjoyable activities we used to do as children.
The parents knew they had to get creative when they learned the quintuplets were too big for strollers and entering huge public spaces would have been challenging. Child leashes were developed as a response to the problem of “too many kids and not enough hands” as a result.
With five children, Jordan claimed that they “don’t really go out that much” and hence don’t use the leashes very frequently. But when he published the now-viral video, people loved to comment with positive feedback.
- Better safe than sorry. If I had that many, I would do the same. Rock on!!! @jensen_james10
- With 5 kids, you need that — responsible parenting right here! @largerthanlifeliz
- Considering my 2-year-old tried to bolt into the street, yeah, we use leashes too now. @_thetwistedtwig
- I can literally hear my granny say, “What have people become of?” The thing is this may look weird, but times have changed rapidly, so being extra protective now is a whole new job. @gerta_qose
- The fact that this father even watches his 5 children by himself & takes them all out, is amazing to me! I was never that lucky & couldn’t even get my children’s father to watch them just so I could have a shower! This man is doing what he has to do to protect his children & keep them safe! I personally applaud him!!! He is exemplary of what a real man/husband/father should be! Thank you, sir, for showing that men like you really truly do exist. @anjyloflove
As usual, adverse reactions were not late to the party.
- “Are they rescues?” @uncustomary_tomatos
- I wouldn’t use it, they are children, old enough to be close, not dogs. @dreaming_around_the_world001
According to Driskell, the majority of the people who made remarks like this don’t likely have many children, if any.
