Will Smith Apologizes To Chris Rock For Oscar Slap In New Video. “We Had A Great Relationship”
For the first time since punching Chris Rock onstage at the 2022 Academy Awards, Will Smith is speaking directly to him. Four months ago at the Oscars, Smith, 53, stormed the stage and struck Rock, 57, in the face. Will apologized to Rock once more in a video that he shared on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube on Friday, according to PEOPLE. In the video, he states, “I’m available whenever you want to talk. Chris responded to my message stating he wasn’t yet ready to talk, but that he would get in touch with me when he was.” Added the King Richard actor, “I will thus apologize to you, Chris. I apologize for my conduct, and I’m available whenever you want to talk.”
Will revealed his decision not to apologize to Rock in his acceptance speech for Best Actor at the Oscars. “By that time, I had lost my vision. Everything is hazy “said him. Since then, Rock has made passing jokes about the Oscars when performing stand-up, but he hasn’t gone into much detail. According to US Weekly, he did a stand-up comedy event with Kevin Hart on Sunday at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. He remarked, “I’m not a victim, motherf—-er,” throughout his performance. Added he, “Nobody who claims that words hurt them has ever taken a hit to the face. Yes, motherf—-er, that stung like s—-. But the next day, I shook that s—- off and reported for work. I avoid the hospital when I get a paper cut.”

Smith came onstage and struck Rock on live television before winning Best Actor at the Oscars on March 27, after taking issue with a remark about wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head. Jada lives with a condition called alopecia, which leads to significant hair loss. Smith later resigned from the Academy and was barred from attending any of their ceremonies for the following 10 years. He said in a statement released after his resignation, “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris.” The statement further read, “I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
