Charlize Theron Transforms Her Blonde Bob into a Shaggy Brunette Mullet — See Her New Edgy Cut!

Adir Abergel, a celebrity hairstylist, and Tracey Cunningham, a celebrity colorist, gave Charlize Theron’s hair a strong rock ‘n’ roll look for her red carpet debut.

The new Charlize Theron is atomic brown!

The actress debuted a new hairstyle and color at her annual Africa Outreach Project Block Party on Saturday, June 11.

Thanks to celebrity hairstylist and Virtue Labs creative director Adir Abergel and celebrity colorist Tracey Cunningham, the Bombshell star transformed her trademark blonde bob into a dark brown shaggy mullet.

The hairstyle included a lengthier pixie cut that was accented at the back by textured layers created by randomly twisting and turning tendrils and waving the hair with a one-inch curling iron. She also wore a brand-new set of voluminous bangs. I’m calling this style “The Mixte,” which is an updated version of the classic mullet, said Abergel.

Cunningham and Abergel intended for the color to be a rich, dark shade to draw attention to the actress’s eyes. According to Abergel, “sometimes we assume we need to go light for summer, yet choosing dark may highlight the color of your eyes and frame your face.”

Theron paired her daring new look with an effortlessly stylish and timeless ensemble that included a beautiful purse, a white button-up blouse, bootcut jeans, and black stilettos. With a silver chain link necklace and rectangle hoop earrings, she also injected a dash of edge.

Theron has occasionally changed up her signature blonde hair color.

She displayed a deep side part and an unexpected chin-length bob during the 2019 Oscars. Her hair was a dark chestnut color. The person who created the style, Abergel, shared Theron’s transformation on Instagram with the caption, “Before the big event, I made the decision to cut it all off. #cannotwaittoshare #2019AcademyAwards #hairbyAdir”

Additionally, the 46-year-old actress has a history of taking daring chances with her hair.

She shared a behind-the-scenes video of herself shaving her head on Twitter in 2020 as she got ready to play the character of Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road from the previous year. Her blonde hair fell to the ground in the video, which has received over a million views, as dramatic music played in the distance.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Theron also discussed her family life during the annual Africa Outreach Project fundraiser event.

She said of her two daughters, August, 7, and Jackson, 10, “They’re simply so tall. “I have my 10-year-old right under my chin, and I have no idea what is happening. However, they are content, healthy, and quite thrilled that summer has arrived.”

She also disclosed several of their interests, among them dance. They are so preoccupied with dancing, she said. “I was made to become a dancing parent against my will, which is absolutely bizarre, yet here I am. I actually simply drive for Uber and attend recitals. I’m done now.”

The School for Good and Evil actress also took a minute to praise the accomplishments of her group.

She stated of the company, which she founded in 2007, “In 2018, we launched our youth leadership scholarship and we currently have 23 students in second and third year of university, studying everything from judicial law to chiropractors.” I believe that we would have never done that at first, but it was immediately obvious to us.
