Harry Says Diana Was ‘Chased To Her Death While She Was In A Relationship With Someone That Wasn’t White’ And Feared ‘History Was Repeating Itself’ With Meghan
Following their well-known but contentious interview in 2020, Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey launched The Me You Can’t See, a docuseries addressing mental health. In the series, Prince Harry discusses how the royal family treated Meghan Markle and how upsetting it was. It reminded him of his late mother, Princess Diana, who was “chased to death while in a relationship with someone who wasn’t white, and look what’s occurred today.” Do you want to discuss how history repeats itself? They won’t stop till she’s dead.”
“Does it have to go this bad?”
In the docuseries, Prince Harry expresses sorrow for not speaking out against Markle’s bigotry sooner. “When I was younger, my father used to say to me, ‘Well, it was like that for me, so it’ll be like that for you,'” he explained. “That doesn’t add up.” It’s not necessary for your children to suffer because you did. In fact, the opposite is true. If you’ve been through a traumatic incident, do everything you can to set things right for your children.”
Princess Diana separated from Harry’s father, Prince Charles, in 1992 and divorced him in 1996. After that, she began dating Egyptian-born Dodi Fayed. In 1997, the two of them died in a car accident in Paris while being pursued by paparazzi. Dodi’s father, Mohammed Al-Fayed, accused the royal family of being racist toward his son in 2008. He dubbed them the “Dracula family,” since they couldn’t get over the princess marrying a Muslim.
Meghan Markle talked about her suicidal concerns in an interview with Oprah regarding the paparazzi. Because of the barrage of negative media attention about her, Markle said she “didn’t want to be alive anymore.” Meghan was accused of “fueling human rights abuses, drought, and murder” by eating avocados, while her mother’s hometown was described as “nearly straight outta Compton” and “gang-scarred.”
Prince Harry’s decision to leave the royal family was motivated by Meghan’s poor mental health. He refused to believe them when they told him “you can’t do this.” “I was thinking, ‘How terrible does it have to be before I can do this?’ When was she going to put an end to her life?’ That shouldn’t have to happen.”
Prince Harry opens out about his struggles with mental health as he grew up in the docuseries. He was 12 years old when Princess Diana died, and he was never encouraged to seek help. “What if someone asked, ‘How are you doing?'” ‘All right,’ I’d say. Never content. ‘I’m never sad, I’m fine.’ The simple answer was OK. But I was mentally all over the place,'” he explained. “Family members have told me that if I just play the game, it will make my life easy.”
From his time with the royal family, Prince Harry suffered from acute anxiety and panic attacks. It all became worse in his late twenties, when he became addicted to partying, drugs, and heavy drinking. He said, “I was willing to try anything that made me feel less like I was feeling.” “However, I gradually realized that I wasn’t drinking Monday through Friday, but rather a week’s worth on a Friday or Saturday night.” And I’d find myself drinking not because I enjoyed it, but because I needed to hide something.”
He then reached his breaking point. “It felt as if someone had lifted a veil over my feelings, which had been suppressed for so many years,” Prince Harry explained.
During a disagreement, Markle, who was his girlfriend at the time, suggested him consult a therapist. “Therapy has prepared me to face any challenge,” Prince Harry explained. “I’m here because of that.” That is why my wife has arrived… Within this family, within this institution, I realized I’d been living in a bubble. I was virtually stuck in a cognitive pattern or mindset.”
