Nicolas Cage’s Turbulent Romantic History — His Shortest Marriage Lasted Only 4 Days

Nicolas Cage is an actor and director from the United States. Cage was born Nicolas Kim Coppola in Long Beach, California, on January 7, 1964, and is a member of the famed Coppola family. August Coppola, filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola’s brother, was his father. Cage didn’t like the connotations that came with his last name, especially while looking for job in the entertainment world, so he changed his professional name to Cage.

For his acting abilities, Cage has won an Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Golden Globe Award. “Leaving Las Vegas,” “Adaptation,” “Con Air,” and the “National Treasure” franchise are among his credits. Because of his appearances in so many different genres, the actor has developed a cult following. He is regarded as a prolific actor due to his numerous cinema roles.

Cage has been married five times in his life, with some of them being extremely tumultuous. In Hollywood, it is normal for marriages to survive only a few years and for stars to have more than two or three marriages. Cage’s marriages have lasted as little as four days!

His most recent marriage to Riko Shibata came with the exciting news that he and she are expecting their first child. The couple’s announcement was made on January 6, 2022, just one day before Cage’s 58th birthday, and it is a joyous occasion.

Cage’s love relationships have taken him through a lot to get to where he is now, and we look at his five marriages below.

Patricia Arquette proposed to Cage in 1995, “clad head to toe in black vinyl, holding a giant purple wedding cake,” according to Cage. Despite their obvious devotion, the on-again, off-again couple split in 2001 after six years of marriage. According to stories, the pair split up barely nine months after getting married, only to divorce years later. Those allegations, however, have been refuted by Arquette.

“There were periods when we weren’t living together because we were arguing,” Arquette told The Telegraph in 2015. “But it wasn’t as reported, and I didn’t feel that I needed to explain that.” “There were periods when my mother was dying (with breast cancer in 1997), and I was living with her and caring for her. When he wasn’t working on a movie, he was gone.”

It didn’t take long for Cage to marry for the second time, this time to Lisa Marie Presley. But, once again, the romance was short-lived, and the pair split in 2004 after only two years together.

Cage has been candid about his prior marriages, telling The Guardian that his first two weddings “do not belong on (his) record.”

“I suppose I felt a kinship there (with Lisa), a sense of the strain that comes with having a well-known name.” Lisa adored the fact that I had changed my name – she thought it was the best thing ever. But I don’t think that two weddings belong on my record, therefore I don’t count them. “For me, the genuine marriage was the 14 years I spent with Alice and the kid we shared,” he told The Guardian.

Cage was alluding to his third marriage, which lasted from 2004 to 2016, and was the star’s longest to date. Cage met Alice, who was working as a waitress at the time, when she was 19 and he was 39, according to The Guardian. Kal-El, their only child, was born in 2005.

When asked about his marriage, he stated, “I made the conscious decision to marry someone from a different zip code than my own. I mean, I’m well out of my own neighborhood. I married into a different culture, and it’s fascinating to note that in Korea, I’m referred to as the Son-in-Law.”

“It was a stunner for me — I definitely didn’t see it coming…” Cage remarked of the couple’s split in 2016. He also stated that he want to stay friends with Kim following their breakup, adding, “I married her when she was pretty young, and I have no hard feelings about what transpired. That’s all I have to say about the subject.”

Hollywood stars are infamous for having brief weddings, and Cage has joined this elite club with his marriage to Erika Koike, which reportedly lasted barely four days in 2019. According to PEOPLE, Koike is a cosmetics artist, and she and Cage dated for a year before marrying in Las Vegas.

In just four days, he filed for an annulment, claiming that they were both inebriated and that he “lacked awareness of his conduct in marrying [Koike] to the point that he was incapable of agreeing to the marriage.”

He further stated that the marriage should be canceled since Koike failed to notify him of her “criminal background,” which included “additional active criminal processes,” and that if an annulment was not feasible, a judge should award him a divorce.

Cage and his current wife, Riko Shibata, have a significant age difference, since she is 31 years his younger.

According to The Sun, the actor confirmed his engagement to Shibata on his brother Marc Coppola’s radio show in 2020.

“She left New York and returned to Kyoto, Japan, while I returned to Nevada and haven’t seen her in six months,” says the author “‘At the time,’ he added.

“We’re incredibly happy together and anxious to spend that time together, so I simply said, ‘Look, I want to marry you,’ and we got engaged via FaceTime.”

The two walked the red carpet together for Nicolas Cage’s latest picture, “Pig.” In January 2022, he revealed that he and Shibata were expecting their first child.

And with his new wife and child, Cage is likely to have a lot on his plate. He’s scheduled to participate in four films in 2022.
