One woman’s father astonished the audience on her wedding day when he took a detour and did something no one expected.
Family isn’t always the one you’re born into; it can also be the one you make for yourself. Late last year, we were reminded of this by a touching TikTok video in which a father surprised his daughter’s stepfather by inviting him to guide her down the aisle on her wedding day.
An act of selflessness
Kelsey Griffith released a wonderful video of her wedding day in late 2021. “Here Comes the Bride” is playing as she and her father go down the aisle. Instead of leading Kelsey directly up to her fiancé, he takes a detour and unexpectedly invites her stepfather to join them.
As the music transitions from the traditional wedding song to Abba’s “Dancing Queen,” the trio walks with their arms linked to the altar.
Recognizing the importance of blended families
The video has been seen over five million times so far. Griffith also shared the story on Instagram, adding that everyone was taken aback by the thoughtful gesture.
She captioned the photo, “Such a special moment from our wedding day.” “My father surprised my stepfather by inviting him to walk down the aisle with us. “Everyone was startled when we included him because we kept it a secret until the ceremony,” she stated.
Andy, my stepfather, has been raising me since I was nine years old, so he deserved a special mention on our wedding day. Including him was such a wonderful and humble gesture, and I’m so proud of my father for doing so.
If the photographs provide any indication, Andy appreciated the gesture as well. Griffith is seen wiping a tear from the corner of his eye in one of his photographs.

Motivating others to share the love
Many fathers imagine walking their daughters down the aisle one day, but how many of them envision doing it with another guy, one who stepped in to assist raise that beautiful girl? Not everyone is fortunate enough to have such loving parents, but it does not imply we are alone.
