2-Year-Old Girl Goes to Airport with Mom, Unknowingly about to Reunite with Her Military Dad
Children, especially newborns and toddlers, may find it difficult to comprehend why their parents must leave the army.
That is why, when kids finally meet their parents in person, they hold them so fiercely out of dread of their disappearing again.
Adalynn, 2, and her mother Alison stood at Rapid City Regional Airport in their native state of South Dakota in May of 2017. The small girl was holding a placard that she had no concept what it said. The poster read as she held it up:
“I’ve come to retrieve my father.” I just don’t know since I haven’t learned to read yet!”
Senior Airman Ron Durbin had been gone for just over six months and was eager to see his lovely wife and daughter’s happy faces.
A HEARTFELT WELCOME
Adalynn appeared taken aback as her father went through the door towards her little young child standing next to her kneeling mother; it was almost as if she didn’t believe he was there.
Without taking her gaze away from her father, the 2-year-old attempted to offer the poster to her mother, but dropped it in eager anticipation and raced right into her father’s arms.
The two locked arms and the Senior Airman gently pulled her up, her arms around his neck, reluctant to let go. Durbin had even brought a stuffed animal for Adalynn, but she was too concerned with her father to notice.
AFTER I’VE LEFT
Mom still down behind her baby, watching the two embrace. She was sobbing with her palm over her lips, seeing the two people she loved the most, once again in one other’s arms.
Unfortunately, the Senior Airman had to embark on another deployment soon after this heartfelt reunion, having only spent less than a year with his family. The father was said to be coming just before Adalynn’s third birthday, presumably to give her another surprise of a lifetime.
EXTREMELY GLAD
If you thought this young girl’s response was cute, wait till you see Meek Watt’s video of her son being awakened up by his father who had just returned from deployment. The video was posted to Instagram with the following description:
“My spouse has been deployed for quite some time…
He paid a surprise visit to his family. That #fatherandson bond is really important. I AM AN EXAMINER.”
Slowly but steadily, the father roused his kid, who appeared hesitant to open his eyelids. When he saw his father, though, he exclaimed, “Daddy!” and jumped into his arms, crying.
AN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT JOB
Military life may be difficult not just for the family, but also for the parent who is serving in the army. While the two prior troops were able to see their children, Brooks Lindsey was not so fortunate, as he was unable to see the birth of his kid in person.
Lindsey saw the birth of his child on FaceTime in 2018, while his trip was delayed. The army guy would have been unable to connect to the program once in the air.
I WAS ON THE VERGE OF MISSING THE MOMENT.
As a result, when they were finally able to fly and the child was beginning to crown, the last thing his wife remembers was the doctor saying, “Do not let him to board the plane! She’s arrived!”
Brooks was allowed to sit and observe his daughter’s birth by airport staff, and when the infant started crying, all of his fellow passengers cheered with him.
We believe both of these warriors have turned out to be fantastic fathers based on the love they radiate.
