Heart-Melting Moment When A Man Gave His Shirt To A Homeless, Shivering Man

The New York City Homeless

Let’s start with a few facts that could surprise you before we get into the narrative. Did you know that in New York, approximately one out of every 106 individuals is homeless? Given the city’s population of roughly 8.3 million people, an estimated 80,000 people are without a house in New York. Every night, around 4,000 individuals spend their evenings on the city’s streets or subways. According to Bowery, there are 20 people sleeping in shelters for every person sleeping on the sidewalks or on trains.

Joey Resto, who was 23 years old at the time, was riding the train home from work one day. In the 45-degree cold, he observed a man without a shirt, shivering. This is when Joey decided to do the right thing and practically stripped off his clothing to give to the homeless man who was cold.

“He appeared chilly and hungry, like if he’d been beaten up.” He appeared emaciated and feeble.

It was only natural for me to want to assist and do what I could. It just came from the bottom of my heart. I don’t understand how somebody could stroll by him with extra clothing and not offer it to him.”

Joey describes how the man did not talk to him, but received his clothing when it was presented to him. He also assisted with the man’s shirt fitting. Thanks to Lazaro Nolasco, who recorded the gesture of compassion that day, the video had over 13 million views at the time of posting.

“After the first film of him in his underwear, I told him, ‘Nah, I can’t just sit here and do nothing,’ and he didn’t really answer yes, he just kind of lifted his arms like a child.” It seemed as though he had been warm for the first time in a long time. He simply curled up in a corner and slept off.”
