The graphic was created by British cartoonist William Ely Hill and published in Puck, an American comedy magazine.

Months passed before the subscribers discovered the picture’s wit, and William maintained his cartooning career. However, as the photograph gathered traction and the news got out, he soon racked up hundreds of followers.

This illusion, titled “My Wife and My Mother-in-Law,” features a younger girl gazing back and an older lady looking forward.

Despite today’s strong competition, owing to the internet, this image was the first of its type and has endured the test of time. W. E. Hill’s illustration has been seen by millions, if not billions, of people!
